Machinery safety / Preparing for 2027

Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230

Prepare your machinery.
Put documentation in order.

Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 is a reason to review planned investments and modifications. We help turn machinery safety assessment and documentation review into an agreed programme of technical work.

Machinery manufacturers • line integrators • industrial plants

Production line conveyor equipment from a GISupport project
Main application date for the new requirements
From assessment to implementation

One project. A clear course of action.

We start a machinery conformity audit by identifying the assignment: a new machine, a production line modification or equipment already in use. We then agree the documentation, technical work and responsibilities involved.

Machinery safety assessment

We review hazards, access to hazardous areas, guards and mechanical, electrical and control arrangements. The scope of risk assessment is defined for the particular machine.

Machinery safety and adaptation →

Technical documentation

We review available drawings, diagrams, instructions and declarations. We identify gaps and agree the scope of documentation work and conformity assessment support.

Electrical design and installation →

Technical adaptation

We prepare and implement agreed mechanical, electrical and automation changes. Planning takes machine access and production downtime into account.

Industrial automation and robotics →

What changes on 20 January 2027?

The main provisions of Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 apply from this date, replacing Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Some provisions apply earlier. The applicable rules and the company’s role must be established when planning supply or first use.

The regulation clarifies areas including substantial modification, digital documentation and the safety of software and control systems. Their relevance depends on the machine’s design and intended use.

The change in legislation does not automatically require every machine already in use to receive new CE marking. Safe operation remains a separate responsibility, and any proposed modification needs its own assessment.

Defining the assignment

When should you contact GISupport?

Building or importing machinery

Let us establish the intended use, planned placing on the market or putting into service, your company’s role and the documents available.

Modifying a production line

Describe changes to mechanics, controls, guards, throughput and interaction between machines. This helps identify the impact on safety.

Managing equipment already in use

We can start with a selected machine or area of the plant. Together we define assessment priorities, documentation and the sequence of work.

Working together

From the first conversation to verification

01

Understand the assignment

Machine description, photographs, documentation and proposed changes. We establish whether a site visit is needed.

02

Assess and define

Review the agreed scope, identify gaps and allocate tasks and responsibilities.

03

Plan and implement

Agree documentation, technical changes, dates and arrangements for work at the plant.

04

Verify the agreed work

Review completed work and discuss the actions needed to close the project.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does every existing machine need new CE marking in 2027?

No. The application date alone does not impose this requirement on every machine already in use. Its safety, history and any modifications must be considered separately.

What is a substantial modification?

It is a physical or digital change affecting safety that meets the definition in the regulation. Not every repair meets that definition. A substantial modification can bring manufacturer obligations; the particular change needs assessment.

Does an audit result in a CE certificate?

An audit identifies the current position and actions required. GISupport can support documentation, technical adaptation and conformity assessment. The applicable procedure and any notified body involvement depend on the machine.

Can we start with incomplete documentation?

Yes. Send the materials you hold, photographs and a description of the machine’s use. We can establish what can be assessed and which further data, measurements or documents are needed.

Can GISupport carry out work identified by the audit?

Yes. Subject to the agreed scope, we combine documentation support with mechanical, electrical and automation work. Delivery arrangements and dates are agreed for the particular plant.

Tell us about your machinery

Plan the audit and the next steps.

Describe the equipment, plant location, proposed changes and target date. Attach available photographs or documentation to your email. We will agree the scope of further assessment.
